Our Advocate runner, Adam, completed the London Marathon on Sunday in a wig and gown – and smashed it!

The London Marathon is always a great day for runners, charities and spectators alike. This Sunday 28th April, we had the joy of Cloisters barrister and Advocate Panel Member, Adam Ohringer, running to raise funds for our work providing access to justice for those who need it most. He was blessed by a classic grey, breezy British Spring which meant that he completed the 26.2 miles in an (extremely hot) barrister’s wig and gown in 4 hours 35 minutes!

And the award for the jolliest runner goes to…

Once more, he has raised a fantastic £2,900 for Advocate! There is still time to donate, and you can do so here. Advocate are incredibly lucky to have supporters like Adam who are not only passionate about pro bono, but are also willing to go the extra mile (or all 25.6 of them) for access to justice.

The ballot for London Marathon 2020 is now open and Team Advocate is looking to recruit more members who are passionate about legal help and pro bono like Adam to run to raise funds for the work we do. You can sign up for the ballot here and start your journey to help prevent people relying on the legal system from navigating it alone. Running not your sport of choice? You can sign up to The Legal Wheel Appeal and cycle from London to Paris to fundraise for us!

I have taken on cases for Advocate, previously the Bar Pro Bono Unit, throughout my career at the bar.  It’s not working for free; it’s lending your skills and experience to someone who desperately needs help.  But that is not enough.

Advocate also requires financial support to operate.  That is why I am raising funds for Advocate by running the London Marathon.

"At a stressful time I have found your organisation and your support a great comfort. It is a fantastic job that you do and one that has the ability to change people's lives for the better - I for one am very pleased that you are there to do the work you do.

So thank you, I shall be forever grateful. I never expected that those offerings this free service would be of such a high calibre. At this point I feel I could not have had better counsel."
