Calling all Practice Managers and Clerks: we want you to share your story!

Here at Advocate, we appreciate that it would not be possible to place the number of cases we do without the dedication and support of clerks and practice managers. You form such an essential part of the structure that keeps our applicants moving through the process towards achieving the goal of access to justice.

Last year, we placed 1,440 pieces of work – an 86% increase on the year before – and received multiple nominations for the Chambers Professional of the Year pro bono award. We want to celebrate you and your ideas about pro bono much more, so we have created a new area on our website where you can tell us about why pro bono matters to you and how it can best help your barristers.

The new section can be found here: https://weareadvocate.org.uk/practice-managers-stories.html

We would like to add many more voices, so if you would like to make a contribution, please contact our communications manager, Lisa, on lnaylor@weareadvocate.org.uk. The questions we typically ask are:

  • How do you encourage your barristers to take pro bono?
  • How do you think it benefits them?
  • What benefit do you get from encouraging pro bono?
  • Do you have a special system in place for allocating work?
  • What advice would you give to other clerks or practice managers who are sceptical about pro bono?

However, you are more than welcome to do something different like a blog post or throw in your own questions and answers.

We will put the profiles on our website and share them on our social media channels. We can’t wait to hear from you!
