The Legal Wheel Appeal: Tom Russell, barrister at KCH, prepares to undertake Le Cycle from London to Paris

Tom Russell

Tom Russell is one of the incredible cyclists pedalling his way from London to Paris to raise money for Team Advocate. Barrister at KCH Garden Square, Tom has undertaken pro bono work over the course of his career, and he has decided to take his dedication to pro bono to the next level by undertaking this mighty challenge, all in the name of access to justice.

“I have seen first-hand the real and substantial difference that legal advice and representation can make to people, particularly when life is at its hardest”

As an expert in contractual disputes and property-related litigation, Tom has represented many victims of unlawful eviction pro bono, who would have had no recourse to preservation of their property rights or compensation without the assistance of professional lawyers. This has given him the drive to take on the mighty Legal Wheel Appeal, cycling 186 miles all the way from Crystal Palace to the Eiffel Tower with a day spent exploring Paris, all whilst aiming to raise £2000 for Advocate. Tom is well on his way to achieving his target, and you can donate here to support him in this immense challenge.

“I am aware of the important work which Advocate does to provide legal help to the ever-increasing number of people who need it”

Tom attributes his motivation for undertaking this challenge to the cuts in legal aid brought about by the austerity policies of the last decade. The need for pro bono barristers is now more urgent than ever, and we could not do what we do without the commitment of brilliant fundraising champions like Tom.
