Thames Reach Housing is the registered provider subsidiary of Thames Reach Charity, a leading London-based charity with a particular focus on rough sleeping, and helping people who are, have been, or are at risk of rough sleeping to find decent homes, build supportive relationships and lead fulfilling lives.
Thames Reach Housing completed the process of registration with the Regulator of Social Housing in February 2023 and has taken ownership of one of the hostels managed by Thames Reach Charity. Becoming a registered provider offers the opportunity to consider the transfer of other hostels and supported housing schemes where this is the best way to secure their future; as well as possible ownership of new hostel and supported housing developments where revenue funding is available.
We are looking for a new board member. The Board has ultimate responsibility for the governance of Thames Reach Housing. As a Board member, in partnership with Board colleagues, you are responsible for determining Thames Reach Housing’s objectives and policies, and the acquisition and use of resources in order to achieve the organisation’s aims.
The Board is responsible for ensuring that Thames Reach Housing works to deliver its obligations as a registered provider with the Regulator of Social Housing and that it works within the overall strategy identified by the group. The group’s mission is to work with people affected by street homelessness to help them have a decent home, supportive relationships and a fulfilling life, in pursuit of the group’s vision: an end to street homelessness.
The Board is responsible for ensuring that Thames Reach Housing is effectively governed, that it plans for a sustainable future, and that the accommodation it provides is safe, compliant with regulatory standards, suitable for its function, safe and of a high standard. The executive team is shared with the Thames Reach Charity parent and the board is also responsible for providing appropriate support and challenge for the Chief Executive and other executives.
Time requirements: Around 4 hours a month, including Board meetings. Half of the Board meetings are in person in Clapham, and half are online.
Opportunities are listed at our discretion and in line with our values. We do not vet organisations and we encourage volunteers to satisfy themselves of the status and objectives of any organisation they choose to apply to work with.
