Organisation Overview
Reproductive Justice Initiative (RJI) is a community-based charity, registered in 2022 after converting from a Community Interest Company, Decolonising Contraception. We are rooted in the framework of reproductive justice: the right to maintain bodily autonomy, have children, not have children and parent children in safe and sustainable communities. Our strategy consists of community engagement, collective care, research, policy and advocacy. We have one full-time staff member, work with several freelancers, and have 4 volunteers.
Role Details
This year, we're undertaking an organisational refresh involving co-creation to help shape our next chapter, with minimum requirements to attend monthly meetings, quarterly board meetings, and a strategy day. For this reason, we are looking for applicants to commit to a full-day (Saturday) strategy meeting in November, facilitated by an organisational health consultant.
As a trustee, your mandate will be to support the mission and vision by actively supporting fundraising efforts and exploring new fundraising avenues. However, as Legal & HR Trustee, you will provide guidance on governance, legal and human resources matters, ensuring our policies and practices align with our values of building a fairer and more equitable.
You will be expected to build a collaborative working relationship with staff, freelancers and volunteers, rooted in proactive communication and committed to conflict resolution principles. This is a unique opportunity to help to shape the future of our charity and make a lasting impact on the community we serve.
Skills and Experience
As a charity that focuses on the sexual & reproductive health (SRH) rights and experiences of people of colour (PoC) and other minoritised individuals, we are looking for trustees who have lived experience of discrimination.
We are interested in people with legal and human resources experience, with a keen interest in developing ways of working that centre care and challenge dominant power structures.
Attendance: Virtual
Time Commitment: Approximately 5-7 hours per month, evening availability for virtual quarterly and monthly meetings with one full day in person meeting a year, held on a Saturday in London
