The Pro Bono Recognition List of England & Wales

The 2025 Pro Bono Recognition List of England & Wales has now been published and is available to view here.

Let us know if you have done 25 or more hours of pro bono work in 2025, and we will ensure that you are included on next year’s Recognition List - submit your name.

The Pro Bono Recognition List of England and Wales is running for its third year!

Published annually, the Recognition List seeks to celebrate barristers and solicitors who have given 25+ hours of pro bono work in the previous calendar year. This is to recognise the commitment to access to justice happening across the legal profession.

The Recognition List was set up under the aegis of the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Committee, with support from the Bar Council, the Law Society, Advocate and all the major pro bono organisations. The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, is the Patron of the Pro Bono Recognition List.

This year was the second year that the Recognition List was published and saw a total of 4,780  individuals recognised, 617 of whom are barristers. We are proud to see a 30% increase in submissions from the Bar in 2025 since 2024, which was its inaugural year.

This is an incredible contribution, and we know that there is even more pro bono work happening at the Bar. We would love to see even more barristers submitting their names to subsequent Recognition Lists.

Advocate is delighted to be collecting submissions on behalf of the Bar.

·      Work can be undertaken through any pro bono scheme or pathway, including but not limited to work through Advocate.

·       Alternatively, chambers can make a bulk submission on behalf of all its members and send it to Advocate before the deadline. Bulk submissions can be made using a downloaded copy of this form, and sent to recognition@weareadvocate.org.uk before the deadline.

We know there is so much pro bono work happening at the Bar.

If you did not manage to complete 25+ hours of pro bono work in 2024, you can aim to do so in 2025 to appear on the 2026 Pro Bono Recognition List.
