Are you interested in becoming an Advocate Reviewer?

Reviewers are an essential part of the Advocate team and play a fundamental role in enabling people to get access to justice through Advocate.

Reviewers assess for the rest of the Bar all the cases that Advocate process and ensure that the right cases are put forward for pro bono assistance.  Our reviewers tell us it is an interesting and rewarding way to volunteer. It has been useful for some in judicial appointment applications meaning we regularly see a number of reviewers leave the panel to join the bench, hence this autumn recruitment campaign.

We are recruiting reviewers in the following areas of law:

•    Admin & Public (10)
•    Criminal (5)
•    Education (2)
•    Family - Child (10)
•    Family - Financial (10)
•    Landlord & Tenant (5)
•    Public Housing (5)
•    Immigration (10)
•    Licensing (1)
•    Regulatory – Disciplinary (Health) (2)

Could one of these people be you?

What to expect?

  • Reviewers receive no more than four cases on one occasion per month and return cases within one week by filling out a concise written review on standard review form.
  • Cases are sent via DX/Post.
  • Every three months, we will contact you and ask you to let us know when you are available. We will put together a quarterly Reviewer rota based on your availability.
  •  Our reviewers are really part of the Advocate family. We hold two reviewers evenings each year, one in Spring and one+ in Autumn to give you the opportunity to meet other reviewers as well as to meet the Advocate staff team!
  • You are supported by three Lead Reviewers and Advocate Trustees, Philip Brook Smith QC, Andrew Hillier QC and Jane Rayson who are available to contact regarding any questions you may have while writing your review.

How to join?

To apply you must demonstrate that you are:

  • At least six years PQE
