About this role

We are seeking a proactive and creative Communications Coordinator to support the delivery of our communications, events, and engagement strategy.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about access to justice and enjoys combining storytelling, relationship-building, organisation, and delivery. You will deliver content creation across channels, develop engaging mailouts and communications that inspire and inform our audiences, and strengthen stakeholder engagement across our supporter base. You will also contribute to a programme of events that recognise and celebrate our supporters and pro bono partners.

You will work closely with the Head of Operations, Engagement Manager and Events and Fundraising coordinator as well as other colleagues across the organisation, taking ownership of key areas while developing your skills and experience.

Location: London and surrounding areas
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £31,733.65
Contract: FTC, 9 Months
Interviews: Thursday 14th May

Our main office is based in London. We offer a hybrid working arrangement for all staff, with the following expectations:

  • Those based within 50 miles of London are expected to attend the office at least two days per week.
  • Those based within 100 miles of London are expected to attend the office at least one day per week.

Working Pattern

Occasional evening and weekend work will be required around events.

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Campaigns

  • Create clear, engaging, and on-brand content across channels, including website, email, social media, and print, tailored to key audiences:
    beneficiaries and service users; barristers funders, partners and the press.
  • Act as a guardian of Advocate’s brand and tone of voice, ensuring consistency, quality, and accuracy across all communications.
  • Plan, manage and deliver targeted communications campaigns to increase awareness, engagement, and support for our work. This includes
    Pro Bono Week and a significant annual fundraising campaign.
  • Develop engaging mailouts and digital communications to strengthen stakeholder engagement.
  • Maintain and develop Advocate’s website, including content updates, SEO, and liaison with external web support.
  • Write regular case studies that show the impact of our work.
  • Support communications for fundraising activity, campaigns, and events, including marketing materials, email communications, and live social media.

Audience Development, Data & Evaluation

  • Support the development and delivery of Advocate’s engagement approach, using communications to build long-term relationships with
    barristers a and encourage sustained volunteering.
  • Lead on media activity, including drafting press releases, creating copy for articles, responding to opportunities, and building relationships with press contacts.
  • Explore new ways to reach wider and more diverse audiences and raise awareness of Advocate and our impact.
  • Use data and insights (e.g. email performance, web analytics, social media metrics) to monitor performance, evaluate impact, and inform future communications and engagement activity.
  • Contribute to reporting by gathering data, feedback, stories, and images for funders, stakeholders, and annual reporting.
  • Ensure all communications and data handling are compliant with GDPR and organisational policies.

General Duties

  • Represent Advocate positively at meetings, events, and occasional conferences.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties in line with the role and organisational needs.

Person specification

Experience and Knowledge

  • Writing promotional materials and content to a high standard, ranging from writing articles and blogs to speeches
  • Knowledge of the Bar & Legal Sector
  • Experience of coordinating multiple projects, meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities
  • Experience of creating a wide range of communications for key stakeholders
  • Experience of managing social media and marketing campaigns
  • A highly organised, and thorough approach to work with meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Consistently high level of attention to detail for written communications, able to do final checks of all communications.
  • Experience in using Canva and Advanced Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel, Word, Salesforce, Marketing Cloud and SharePoint

Skills and Abilities

  • An ability to produce video content (desirable).
  • Ability to adjust tone and content to suit many different audiences (senior lawyers through to vulnerable members of the public).
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
