As part of this year’s Pro Bono Week celebrations, Advocate was delighted to host its first-ever Comedy Night, Stand Up for Justice, bringing together laughter and generosity in support of pro bono.

The evening, held at the International Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC), featured an outstanding line-up of comedians – Rich Wilson, Keith Farnan, Abigail Rolling, and Tevin Everett – who kept the audience entertained throughout the night. The event was masterfully hosted by Robert Jones, who not only served as MC but also played an integral role in implementing this event.

Advocate’s Chairman, Sharif A. Shivji KC, opened the night with a heartfelt speech, reflecting on how comedy, much like pro bono work, has the power to bring hope, joy and connection to those who need it most. He thanked all attendees, performers and supporters for contributing to the night.

The event drew a fantastic crowd and an atmosphere full of warmth and generosity. Through raffle ticket sales and donations, the night raised almost £900, with all proceeds going directly towards our work connecting people who are ineligible for legal aid and unable to afford legal representation with pro bono barristers. Raffle ticket prizes ranged from a crate of Nyetimber wine, to a meal for two at Fortnum & Masons.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, to the IDRC for hosting us, and to all who helped make our first ever comedy night such a success!
