Advocate is pleased to announce the launch of a new pilot scheme, in collaboration with the Competition Appeal Tribunal (“CAT”), providing free legal assistance and representation to litigants in person before the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

The scheme, which will run for an initial period of eighteen months, aims to improve access to justice for individuals and organisations involved in complex competition law proceedings who would otherwise be unrepresented.

The scheme is supported by a panel of over 50 volunteer barristers, all committed to delivering high-quality pro bono legal support.

Sarah Abram KC, who has spearheaded this new scheme, has commented:

I’m really delighted by the launch of this joint scheme, which will offer free legal help from barristers for litigants in person in the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Competition law isn’t just an issue for major companies; anyone in any walk of life can be affected by a competition law problem, including consumers, small businesses and charities. The cost of bringing a claim shouldn’t be a deterrent. Sincere thanks to the 70 barristers who have signed up as panel members for the scheme.”

Litigants in person seeking assistance are invited to complete Advocate’s application form. For those unable to complete the online form, support is available via email at catscheme@weareadvocate.org.uk or by leaving a voicemail at 020 4518 6141.

Barristers interested in volunteering for the scheme are encouraged to contact Advocate at catscheme@weareadvocate.org.uk.
