On 26th January, Advocate marked the second anniversary of Birmingham CLIPS with a celebratory reception, hosted in partnership with the Midland Chancery and Commercial Bar Association (MCCBA) and kindly supported by St Philips Chambers.
Birmingham CLIPS was established two years ago to provide on-the-day advice and advocacy for unrepresented parties appearing on the Interim Applications List of the Business and Property Court, before the District Judge Chancery Applications List in the High Court every Friday. Since its launch, the scheme has gone from strength to strength, supporting litigants in person at a critical stage of proceedings.
At the event, District Judge Mantle spoke to thank the volunteers who make the scheme possible and to recognise its continued success. This year, Birmingham CLIPS has expanded further, with additional sitting dates reflecting growing demand for the service.
The reception also saw Raghav Trivedi (St Philips Chambers) presented with the inaugural 2025 MCCBA Pro Bono Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Birmingham CLIPS.
The event was well attended by members of the local Bar from chambers including St Philips Chambers, No5 Barristers’ Chambers, Cornwall Street Barristers, Halcyon Chambers and St Ives Chambers, alongside court staff from the Birmingham Civil Justice Centre.
We would like to extend our particular thanks to Alex Pritchard-Jones (No5 Chambers) and Michelle Caney (St Philips Chambers) for their dedication and hard work in supporting the scheme, as well as to all the volunteers who have given their time over the past two years to help make Birmingham CLIPS such a success.
We are grateful to St Philips Chambers for generously hosting the anniversary reception.
