The Pro Bono Recognition List recognises barristers and solicitors who have given 25 or more hours of pro bono legal assistance over the previous calendar year.

This year was the second year that the Recognition List was published and saw a total of 4,780  individuals recognised, 617 of whom are barristers. We are proud to see a 30% increase in submissions from the Bar since last year, which  is a testament to all those barristers volunteering their time to help those who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn to for advice and representation. Our many congratulations and thanks go to all those on the List for improving access to justice.

Endorsed by its patron The Lady Chief Justice of England & Wales, The Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, the Recognition List was set up under the sponsorship of the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Committee, with the support of the Law Society, Bar Council, and all major pro bono legal organisations.  Advocate were delighted to be responsible for collecting submissions on behalf of the Bar this year.

Commenting on the launch, our CEO Rebecca Wilkie said:

Advocate are delighted to see the 30% increase in barristers appearing on the Recognition List this year. The List pays tribute to the selfless work that barristers and solicitors undertake to support those who have nowhere else to turn for legal support - those who would otherwise be unrepresented. Advocate collects submissions for the List on behalf of the Bar and we are proud to work closely with many of the barristers recognised this year. Both our team and those we help are grateful for the time and expertise volunteered by so many.

If you have already completed 25 or more hours of pro bono work in 2025, complete the submission form to appear on next year’s Recognition List.
