The Schools Consent Project is a UK-based charity established in early 2015. We send lawyers and law students into schools to deliver workshops on the legal definition of sexual consent and key sexual offences (such as sexual assault, rape and ‘sexting’). We also address a number of other issues faced by young people, including the age of consent, bystander intervention and ways to obtain help. Learning about the laws around sexual consent allows young people to understand their rights and responsibilities, as well as empowering them with the confidence to give, check for, withdraw or withhold their consent, and to call out non-consensual sexual activity in others. Through our hour-long interactive workshop we aim to normalise conversations about consent in order to challenge sexually harmful attitudes in young people. We hope that early intervention and education will reduce rates of sexual violence and create a more responsible and respectful society from the grassroots up. We see these students as the jurors of the future, and our workshops promote an understanding of and respect for their rights and the rights of others. In time, we want our work to contribute to changing the culture in schools, universities, workplaces and on juries.

Our volunteers are confident communicators, committed to delivering a clear message, passionate about youth empowerment and non-judgmental, respectful and professional.
The process of becoming a workshop volunteer involves (1) registering to attend a training session and completing an application form; (2) attending a training session (approximately 2 hours either via Zoom or in person; you will also be sent a demo recording to watch beforehand - approx 40 minutes); (3) completing a telephone assessment (approx 30 minutes).
