Chair of Trustees (with legal background)

Deadline: 7 Jul 2024
At location

Organisation Overview

We provide emergency care to people who are in a state so critical that they require the specialist skills of our team at the scene of the accident or medical incident. Though we are part of the regional 999 response service and work closely with NHS hospitals, we are a charity entirely funded by local people.

Great Western Air Ambulance Charity saves lives in our communities, but we could help even more people. Why wouldn’t you want to be our next Chair of Trustees?

Role Details

Time commitment: 2 hours per week on average. Board meetings take place once a quarter in the afternoon for 2-3 hours.

Attendance: Attendance is largely in person with occasional remote options.

Role Description

We’re looking for an experienced Trustee who knows how excellent Boards work, how to get the very best out of great people, and how to help wonderful organisations become even better. We need someone who is a natural networker and people-person, who can understand complex information, and can ask key questions in a way that is as supportive as it is challenging. But most importantly, our new Chair will need to share our Values – we pride ourselves on being Collaborative, Dedicated, Curious and Compassionate.

We don’t ask for a big time commitment as we have a professional management team who take full responsibility for the week-to-week running of the charity, but we do need someone who has the time and space to carry out this role well. So although the average might be a couple of hours a week, this can be really variable and you will need to be able to make time in the working day occasionally, with good notice. We try to meet in person, as collaboration is better that way, and you will need to get out and about from time to time to meet key stakeholders or attend events. Due to this, and the need to understand our communities and help us reach more people, you will need to be local – we cover Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and parts of Wiltshire.

We’ve prepared a Chair Information Pack to give you some more information and hopefully answer the questions you have, so please have a look at that, and get in touch if you think this role could be for you!
