Organisation Overview

The Gane Trust is committed to supporting people engaged in welfare and social care and those involved with all of the arts, craft and design. We do this by giving Gane Grants to individuals and through our Award Scheme for students in further and higher education. Our Gane Grants enable individual people to realise their aspirations and potential and make a real difference to their lives.

Role Details

Time commitment: The Board of Trustees meets six times per year (12h-18h). In addition, the Trustees are expected to assess grant applications (approx. 21h) and any ad-hoc duties, as and when required (approx. 20h). In total, approximately 59h pa.

Attendance: Hybrid. 

Role Description

The trustees are expected to take an active role in Gane Trust activities, as part of a small team of Trustees. This includes assessing grant applications, participation in ongoing governance and development of the Trust, and advocating for the Trust in the wider world. We are currently going trough a governance review and are particularly looking for a trustee with legal background, familiar with charitable, not-for-profit or third sector organisations.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Legal and governance experience, preferably in the charity/ non-profit sector;
  • Team working skills, as you will be part of a small board of Trustees;
  • Good communication skills, incl. for digital media;
  • An interest in arts, crafts, design and/or welfare and social care;
  • Familiarity with Bristol and South West arts and culture would be helpful but not essential.
