Role Description

Are you passionate about creating positive change and breaking down barriers to social mobility within the legal sector? Do you have research experience and a drive to make a difference in people's lives? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

State2Bar is searching for dynamic and dedicated state-school educated Barristers who possess a passion for social mobility at the Bar. We are in the process of formulating a Research Project which seeks to collate existing and new data, analyse and interpret findings to assess the current state of social mobility and opportunities at the Bar. It is our aim to be able to make a positive impact by improving existing social mobility policies within the profession. As a Volunteer on our Research Review Panel, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our charity's mission of increasing social mobility at the Bar.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a team to peer review findings of the Advocate Research Team.
  • Contribute recommendations and expert guidance to the Advocate Research Team’s project approach.
  • Attend quarterly meetings with Advocate Director and Team Lead to discuss project progress and peer review findings.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience: Barristers, preferably with some experience working on a thesis/dissertation/academic journal but not required.
  • Skills: An ability to manage your own work within a team, strong communication skills, a reliable character and an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Passion: A strong commitment to social mobility, the mission of State2Bar and a desire to make change.
