Organisation Overview

The Charity's objects are restricted specifically, only for the public benefit to advance the education of disabled persons and those with additional learning need, in particular, by providing environments in which they may be trained in vocational and social skills with a view to having a more inclusive role in the community.

V21 supports life-changing opportunities for people with learning disabilities to realise their potential through; catering, growing, creating, learning and making initiatives.

Many of these projects are social enterprises that provide training for people with learning disabilities and volunteering opportunities for others.

Role Details

Time commitment: The Board meet quarterly for approximately 2 hours, conducted either in person or virtually when necessary. We have alternated between lunch time and late afternoon meetings, but meeting times are flexible and reviewed regularly to accommodate all trustees. As a minimum, trustees should allow for a couple of hours preparation plus travel to/from and attendance at a board or sub-group meetings. Occasionally additional time may be needed in relation to understanding our services, providing advice, or consultation on issues. 

Attendance: Either face-to-face (preferred) or via Zoom/Teams.

As a V21 Board Member, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Volunteer in a supportive environment: Work alongside a dedicated team of professionals and fellow Board Members.

We require individuals who have expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Marketing
  • Learning disabilities

Personal Qualities

  • Demonstrate a strong and visible commitment to the Charity, its values, mission and vision
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively
  • Ability to support Trustees and to motivate staff / volunteers and bring people together to promote a shared team environment
  • To be objective and honest with the ability to deal with issues of a confidential nature
  • Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including preparing for and attending meetings
  • The willingness to use their specific knowledge, skills or experience to contribute to sound decision making in the best interest of V21
