Organisation overview

GATE Herts is a Gypsy and Traveller-led charity working to support, empower, and advocate for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people across Hertfordshire.

Our organisation provides:

  • Advocacy on housing, health, education and discrimination
  • Training for professionals on GRT awareness and inclusion
  • Youth and community engagement projects
  • Campaigning and policy work to challenge inequalities
  • Events and education during Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month
  • Research and monitoring to highlight barriers and drive change
  • Report Racism GRT is a Third-Party Reporting Service for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people.

Our aim is to promote equality, challenge discrimination, and ensure GRT voices are heard and respected.

Role Details

To facilitate as subject matter experts to take part in our webinar (on Human Rights and Social Justice for Gypsy, Roma and Travellers Communities) we are particularly looking for experts to highlight the challenges faced by the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities in everyday life.

We would be incredibly grateful if these specialists could share their expertise for approximately 20 minutes each during the webinar, followed by a Q&A session.

The webinar will be open to everyone nationwide, with the target audience being the GRT communities, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller organisations and groups, local government representatives, and specialists in the voluntary sector.

Time Commitment:

Our goal is to hold the webinar before the end of June 2025, with a provisional date set for June 26th, 2025.

Time requirements would be around 2 hours.

Attendance:

Remotely via Webinar

Required Skills & Experience:

We are seeking the pro bono services of specialists in the areas of:

  • Human Rights specifically on Section 8 and 14 of the Human Rights Act and the impact on Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities.
  • Social justice for Gypsy/Traveller communities involves challenging discrimination, improving access to housing, education, and healthcare, and respecting cultural identity. These groups often face systemic racism, social exclusion, and barriers to services—so real justice means listening to their voices and protecting their rights while honouring their way of life and the Equality Act 2010.

Legal Aid and its restrictions.
