Trustee with Legal Expertise

Deadline: 25 Aug 2025

Organisation overview

Autistic Girls Network is a charity which advocates for and supports autistic girls and women. We work to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and promote a deeper understanding of autism as an internal presentation. Our work includes providing resources, running a community, running peer support groups, training and advocating for change in policy and practice. We are also about to launch The Haven, an online alternative provision for neurodivergent girls and non-binary young people. We are a neurodivergent-led organisation that is growing rapidly, and we are passionate about ensuring autistic girls and young people are no longer missed, misunderstood, or unsupported.

Role details

We are now looking to recruit a new trustee to our board. Trustees are unpaid board members and help to set the strategic direction of the charity, ensure its governance is strong, and that it remains true to its mission. You would be joining AGN at a critical time of growth and impact, as we expand our services and reach more families and professionals than ever before.

We particularly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of neurodivergence, or who have a close personal connection to the community we serve.

What’s in it for you?

•                     Make a significant difference to the lives of autistic girls and women.

•                     Use your existing legal expertise to support a high-impact charity.

•                     Work alongside a committed and varied team of trustees who are passionate about our mission.

•                     Help us to launch and grow The Haven, our new online alternative provision.

•                     Gain valuable strategic experience in making critical decisions that will support the growth and development of a high-profile, influential charity.

•                     Feel great by giving back and contributing to a cause you believe in.

We are looking for a trustee with specific skills and experience in the following area:

·       Charity Law/Education Law: We need a trustee to bolster our ability to scrutinise, manage, and make effective decisions based on our legal responsibilities within the charity and education sectors. Experience with charity commission regulations, governance, and/or legal frameworks related to education (such as alternative provision or special educational needs) would be highly valuable.

We believe that diversity and inclusion are integral to the charity and the work we do. We are committed to creating a culture where everyone can thrive as a trustee, regardless of their background, identity, or perspective. Our communities are made of a multitude of characteristics and identities which we strive to embrace and celebrate. We are looking for candidates who share our values and can help us realise our mission.
