Why me? is a leading national charity in the promotion and delivery of Restorative Justice in the UK. The organisation has a successful track record in championing the voices of people affected by crime and conflict and communicating to the public, professionals and policy-makers the power and potential of Restorative Justice.

Role Details

Time commitment: The Board meets 4 times a year with options to join sub-committees and to support specific areas of the organisation’s work and development. Meetings usually take place quarterly on Wednesdays from 12-2pm, at our office in London, and can be joined remotely. Trustees are encouraged to attend in person when possible. On average Trustees can expect to spend around 4 hours a month on Why me? activities. 

Attendance: Trustees can join meetings remotely but are encouraged to attend in person when possible. 

Role Description 

With a new CEO in post and a strategy review underway, Why me? is now seeking three new Trustees to join our Board and support the growth and development of our small and impactful organisation.

You will bring a passion for Restorative Justice and a willingness and commitment to work alongside the rest of the Board and CEO. You will have an interest in ensuring the good governance of the charity, which is a company limited by guarantee. You will need to support the aims and objectives of Why me? and have time to commit to Board and other meetings.

Trustees are responsible to the Charity Commission for the good governance of Why me? and ensure that the organisation’s activities meet the aims and objectives of the charity. They also set the strategic direction; support the CEO and staff in managing the organisation; and take responsibility for financial probity, accounting and risk.

Required Skills and Experience

We are especially interested in people who have experience in one or more of the following areas:

- lived experience of Restorative Justice

- expertise in criminal justice policy and/or campaigning

- knowledge or experience of good governance, charity management/HR
