Taunton Theatre Association is the registered charity operating Taunton Brewhouse, the town centre venue providing year-round entertainment and arts educational activities for all ages. Our Youth Theatre provides young people with the opportunity to develop and perform their own shows as well as audition to work with professional actors in our in-house Christmas productions. We provide events specifically designed to appeal to families, whilst older people will find programmes and activities specifically tailored to their needs; we aspire to have an arts experience for everyone.
Working with a small professional team, we are supported by a large number of volunteers who work front of house and back-stage and are an integral part of our wider team.
We aim to be a community resource and work with civic organisation and other charities to meet the needs of Taunton, across Somerset and adjacent counties.
Time commitment: Board Meetings take place at Taunton Brewhouse on Monday evenings usually 3rd Monday in month and the AGM is normally on 4th Friday in November, each up to 3 hours. Additional meetings, if necessary, take place on-line. A trustee away day is scheduled for early summer annually. We also look to trustees to be active in their support for the theatre, attending performances and taking part in cultural activities in Taunton when possible.
Attendance: As indicated scheduled meetings are in person although we use on-line meetings too. We believe that it is vital for Trustees to play a part in the life of the theatre and be seen when possible.
This trustee, in addition to taking a full role in the oversight of the management and strategic direction of Taunton Theatre Association, will be able to give guidance on legal matters pertinent to our situation. We have legal advisers, so this is more a matter of guidance on process and options rather than directly contributing legal work.
The new trustee will succeed a similarly skilled colleague who has recently decided to move abroad.
A key attribute will be a legally trained mind, able to provide insights in different situations. Our current priority is for experience appertaining to property and risk management, but other areas of interest include contracting, HR and general management matters.

Opportunities are listed at our discretion and in line with our values. We do not vet organisations and we encourage volunteers to satisfy themselves of the status and objectives of any organisation they choose to apply to work with.
