The Rights Practice is a registered UK charity which works to advance human rights in Asia with a particular focus on China and Hong Kong. We work to build the capacity of local civil society to raise awareness, to hold governments to account and to advocate for policies that help make human rights an everyday reality.
Time commitment: Four Board meetings a year.
Attendance: Hybrid.
We are looking for a trustee to join our Board, to ensure:
• The Rights Practice delivers its purpose with due diligence.
• Decisions are taken in the best interests of the charity, particularly in matters of potential conflict of interest.
• Relevant information is reported to the Charities Commission.
• Safeguarding.
• Good management of risk and finances.
We are looking for individuals who share our values and are motivated and committed to the work and mission of The Rights Practice, with:
• A strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Strong person skills and willingness to work with others and express your opinion while also listening to and respecting the views of others.
• Sound independent judgment, strategic vision and ability to think creatively.
• Honesty, integrity and commitment to act in the best interests of the charity at all times.
• People of all ages, including younger people from 18 and above are encouraged to apply (by UK law you must be at least 18 years old to be a charity trustee).
Specific experience
• We particularly welcome and encourage applications from individuals with a combination of any of the following skills and knowledge: charity finance, fundraising and grant-making
• Strategic communications, including social media, digital technology and journalism
• Knowledge of human rights issues in Asia and or NGO/charity operations
• Prior Trustee or board experience is preferred.
