Wiltshire Law Centre is seeking committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is an exciting time to join our Board as we continue to grow and develop to ensure we meet the needs of the communities we serve. 

Our mission:

  • To provide free and low-cost specialist legal services to our communities. 
  • To fight for changes to laws and policies that perpetuate disadvantage.

Our vision:

  • To provide socially disadvantaged and vulnerable people with the high-quality legal advice they deserve, enabling them to access justice and increase their social mobility.

Our aims:

  • To defend the legal rights of people who cannot afford a lawyer. 
  • To work within our local communities to uphold justice and advance equality. 

Role Details

Time Commitment: The expectation is that you are only required for a few hours per month. Monthly board meetings, mostly held online via MS Teams. These meetings are usually in the evenings on the second Tuesday of the month.
Attendance:
Generally at home, but you may infrequently be expected to meet in person.

Role Description

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Wiltshire Law Centre achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Wiltshire Law Centre has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Wiltshire Law Centre to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

In this important volunteer role, you will help to drive the strategic vision of the Law Centre and ensure its good governance.

Required Skills & Experience

We are seeking people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to join our Board of Trustees.  This is an exciting time to join our Board as the Law Centre continues to grow and develop to ensure we meet the needs of the communities we serve. In this important volunteer role, you will help to drive the strategic vision of the Law Centre and ensure its good governance.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to persuade and influence to promote the interests of Wiltshire Law Centre.
  • Good listening skills and an openness to other views and feedback on own contribution.
  • Able to think differently, come up with new ideas and challenge existing thinking.

Values and ways of working:

  • Commitment to Wiltshire Law Centre’s mission, vision, aims and values.

In addition, we are looking for individuals who can bring at least one of the following specialisms to the board:

  • Charity governance
  • Risk management
  • Legal Aid
  • Fundraising/corporate giving/sponsorship
  • Communications and campaigning
  • Charity law
  • Links to the geographical areas and communities we serve

The above criteria are desirable, but not essential.
