Advocate is a national charity which matches volunteer barristers eager to undertake pro bono work with those who need legal assistance but cannot afford to pay for it and cannot obtain public funding (legal aid).
The Advocate team has had an exceptional year with many of our team securing pupillage or scholarships to the Bar Course. As a result, we are recruiting for a number of roles in the casework team to start as soon as possible.
We are looking for a motivated and organised individual with a passion for social justice who will look forward to building relationships with barristers, clerks and front-line legal agencies on top of managing a busy case load. Excellent attention to detail and previous experience assisting vulnerable people are a must.
These roles are ideal for someone who is waiting to start pupillage next year but open to everyone. You are expected to work 35 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks) Monday – Friday.
Our London roles require a minimum of 2 days in the London office. For our other roles you will work initially from home and be expected to come to our London office 4 times a year.
We are looking for the following roles:
1. London Caseworker x2
2. Northeastern Circuit based Caseworker
3. Western Circuit based Caseworker
4. Wales & Chester based Caseworker
5. A Floating Caseworker
6. A Triage Caseworker
Across these roles we are looking for people developing an interest in commercial law, inquests, social welfare law (housing, employment, family law).
For our circuit-based Caseworkers we would expect you to live or have very close connections to the Circuit. You will be the Advocate representative in your circuit, both the point of contact for barristers, front-line legal agencies and the wider legal community in your Circuit.
The Floating caseworker works across all areas of law, supporting colleagues with their caseload and covering for absences. The floating caseworker role is unique and vital at a time where demand for our services continues to remain high.
The triage caseworker plays a vital role in the casework process as the first point of contact for applicants. The triage caseworker assesses all applications for help to make a quick and accurate assessment on their suitability for our service.
